——Hi, my name is Julien Soster, a young professor of business and economics from ISG Paris in France. I hold a master’s degree in Business Management from EDHEC Business School in Lille, France. Education has always played a significant role in shaping my life and career, and I find great joy in sharing knowledge and learning from others. Beyond academics, I have a deep passion for traveling and exploring new cultures, which has greatly influenced my personal and professional growth. I like to think that these experiences have broadened my perspectives and made me more adaptable and open-minded.

Q2:What do you consider the biggest challenge in teaching e-commerce (Sino-foreign cooperation)students ?What unique experiences or benefits has the Chinese-foreign cooperative education model provided you?
——The biggest challenge for me is to keep the students interested and engaged during the class. I need to adapt myself and give the best of me. It is rewarding since I see many students do the same too. The students are very nice and respectful, and I noticed they also study harder over time. Sometimes they impress me. They have a mindset that I like and that I found unique here. I also learn a lot from them to be honest. It is priceless to me.
Q3:How would you assess the overall atmosphere and cultural integration at Yango University? Which aspects do you believe most support students’ learning and growth?
——I felt very welcome and supported since the beginning. The students made the atmosphere very enjoyable. I know they want me to enjoy my time at Yango, I can feel it matters to them. Every morning, I wake up happy to see them.
Q4:In the e-commerce program curriculum, how should the balance be maintained between theoretical teaching and practical training, and how can students cultivate their international perspectives?
——Theoretical and practical are two sides of the same coin. Both of them need to be treated with equal importance. The theory highlights the practice and practice is what students really came for. A project in which students can practice and experience by themselves what we cover in class is ideal to me. I also give case studies because they are other concrete example of how e-commerce works in real life.
When it comes to the international vision, the whole course needs to treat various concepts and examples from companies all around the world. The goal is to give students a complete understanding of e-commerce, inside and outside China.
Q5:The e-commerce industry is developing rapidly. What important trends do you think will occur in this field in the next few years? In view of these trends, how do you suggest students plan their learning and career development paths?
——I think the use of AI will be one of the major topic discussed in e-commerce. AI is going to play a massive role in shaping the future of e-commerce. We are already seeing it in personalized shopping recommendations, inventory management, and even customer service with chatbots. Beyond that, social commerce—buying directly through social media platforms—is really taking off. Blockchain might also grow in importance, especially for ensuring transparency in supply chains.
For students, my advice is to stay curious and keep learning. See how these trends impact the industry and how you can apply them. Try to get some real-world experience through internships or projects—those experiences really help connect what you learn in class to what’s happening out there in the industry.
Q6:As a foreign teacher, how do you perceive the promotion of international cross-cultural exchanges and cooperation in e-commerce? What measures can we implement to enhance students’ international competitiveness?
——When it comes to promoting international cross-cultural exchange, I think it can be done by building always more relationships with universities abroad. This can happen through academic exchanges, but also in other ways, like sports events or any kind of appealing activity. For example, when I was a student myself, we had an event called the “Course Croisière EDHEC” every year. It brought together more than 3,000 students from 20 countries and 150 universities. It might have cost some money to organize, but it was also very profitable and brought a lot of attention to the school, both nationally and internationally.
As for helping students become more competitive in the international market, I think it could be a good idea to strengthen their language skills.Offering more resources or extra time to practice foreign languages? From what I have understood, I think it is something that Yango is actively already doing at the moment, so it is promising. It looks like business schools nowadays requires their students to always be more fluent in foreign languages. Students have more language classes, and while it was challenging, I think it’s worth it in the end because communication is everything in business. Someone who can speak confidently will have a significant advantage in the job market, even if their résumé is less fleshed out.
Which brings me to my last point: having professional speaking classes and communication skills workshops. I believe it’s important to include classes where students can practice public speaking and learn how to address an audience. Speaking in front of a crowd or simply in public (during a meeting for instance) is a skill that takes time to develop, and these kinds of sessions can help students build confidence and clarity in their communication. It’s not just about knowing what to say but also about learning how to deliver it effectively. I think it is key in the job market, and students know how to do this; they will stand out and Yango will stand out too.
